Our 1st Annual
Family STREAM Night
was a huge success!
Making Geometric Shapes that we see on street signs with DOTD
There were over 180 students in attendance at Villa del Rey Creative Science and Arts Magnet School on Thursday, November 15, 2018. Each student was given a passport to "STREAM" through the activities of the night. In our Science stations, students were able to make a blob in a bottle and slime, as well as test color-filtered and light refracting goggles. They were also able to enter our very own Planetarium room and get a great view of the stars and planets in the night sky. In our Technology stations, students were able to explore the world of robotics, using basic robots, such as Botley and Ozobot. Students as young as PreK took turns programming Botley to complete a course.
At Villa del Rey the "R" is for Reading, so we combined the event with our Book Fair and encouraged students to develop a love for reading by choosing books of their very own. "E" is for engineering, and on our engineering hall, students were able to build wind-powered sail cars and test boats to see how much weight they could hold without sinking. LIGO was also on our engineering hall with many awesome activities for our students to try. The "A" is for arts, where our students were able to construct Thaumotropes and see there creation come to life in the earliest form of optical illusion. Finally, the "M" is for math. In our math stations, students completed tangram puzzles and tested out their heart rate. On top of all that, there was a food truck present for families who wanted to dine with us and many door prizes given by area sponsors, such as The Knock Knock Museum and WalMart. It really was an incredible event and can't wait to have another next year! |
